이정용 작가노트 (b.1984)
Artist's Note.
‘‘보는 것이 곧 믿는 것’’이라는 말을 우리는 별다른 의심 없이 수긍할 것이다. 이는 어떠한 대상을 인지할 때 일차적으로 시각적 형상을 통해 이미지를 수용하는 것이 일반적이기 때문인데 시각적 정보의 용이한 접근성 때문에 대상의 전체적 이미지가 시각적 이미지라는 오인을 하기 쉽다. 그러나 시각은 직관적이고 원초적인 감각이지만 그것에 대한 객관성은 담보할 수 없기에 대상의 이미지를 생성하는 근본적인 힘은 시각적 정보에 있는 것이 아니라 상상하는 주체인 자아에 있는 것이다.
본인의 작품은 컬러 점토를 소재로 먼저 정신 작용을 통한 어떠한 형태를 만든 후 그것을 보고 회화로 옮기는 과정으로 작업을 진행한다. 이러한 소재 자체는 정해진 형태와 색감이 존재하지 않으며 그것을 작가의 경험과 생각 그리고 조형적 관점을 통해 어떠한 형태로 만들어지게 되고 작업으로 표현된다. 이는 추상적 형태의 조형물을 사실적으로 그림으로서 극사실주의 회화가 가지고 있는 한계점을 극복하고자 함이고 지금까지 시각적으로 인지되지 않은 대상으로 하여금 보는 이에 따라 다양한 상상과 해석 등의 연상 작용이 가능 한 것에 그 목적이 있다. 또한 그 과정을 통해 껍데기 속의 알맹이, 즉 본질이라는 정신적 메시지를 내포하고 있으며, 꾸준히 작업하는 과정 속에서 본인의 생각, 감정 등의 요소가 자연스레 작품이랑 연결되고 작업의 결과물은 ‘나’라는 본질을 포장한 하나의 껍데기인 것이다.
사회와 문화 속의 물질화된 무언가에 반하여 예술 속에서의 대상은 정체성을 찾기 위한 하나의 매체가 되어왔다. 많은 예술가들은 실제의 경험을 통해 인간의 정체성을 찾으려 노력했으며 더 나아가 시대적 특성과 작가의 개성에 따라 다각도로 연구됐다. 이처럼 대상의 깊은 통찰을 통하여 창작에 끊임없는 노력을 기울여야 할 것이며 본인 또한 깊이 있는 내적 변화를 통하여 성숙하게 되는 내면과 그 안의 감정들에 주목하고 화면의 시각적 표현에 대해 고민할 것이다.
Without much doubt, we will accept the phrase 'seeing is believing'. This is because it is common to accept images primarily through visual shapes when recognizing an object, and it is easy to mislead that the overall image of the object is a visual image because of the easy accessibility of visual information. However, although the visual sense is intuitive and primary, the objectivity cannot be guaranteed, so the fundamental power to create an image of an object lies not in visual information, but in the self, the subject of imagination.
Artist LEE Jungyoung's work first creates a certain form through mental action using colored clay as a material, then sees it and transfers it to painting. These materials do not exist in a fixed form and color, and they are created in a certain form through the artist's experience, thoughts, and formative perspectives, and are expressed as work. This is to overcome the limitations of hyperrealist paintings as a realistic picture of abstract sculptures, and its purpose is to enable various imaginations and interpretations of associative actions according to the view of objects that have not been visually recognized until now. In addition, it contains a mental message of the essence, that is, the essence, in the shell through the process. In the process of working steadily, elements such as one's thoughts and emotions are naturally connected to the work, and the result of the work is a shell that encapsulates the essence of 'I'.
Contrary to something materialized in society and culture, objects in art have become a medium for finding identity. Many artists have tried to find human identity through real experiences, and furthermore, they have been studied from various angles according to the characteristics of the times and the individuality of the artist. In this way, you will have to make constant efforts to create through deep insight into the object, and you will also pay attention to the inner world and the emotions that mature through deep internal change, and think about the visual expression of the Canvas.
