Artist's Note.
나의 그림의 시작은 과거로부터의 기억과 추억으로부터 시작되었다.
낯선 이국 땅, 조용한 방 안에서의 종이와 펜이 주는 위로는 나에게 하루하루를 버틸 수 있는 원동력이 되었다.
지난 여행 사진을 보고 그리기도 하고, 출퇴근하며 보이는 풍경들, 추억이 담긴 장소들과 스쳐 지나간 곳들을 기록하듯 도시 속 건물들과 사물에만 집중하며 그렇게 그림을 그렸다.
예전 나의 시선은 건물과 풍경이 담긴 장소였지만, 지금의 나의 시선은 그 안에 함께 공존하고 있는 사람들까지 확장하여 캔버스에 도심 속 이야기를 담고 싶었다.
걷고 이야기하고 먹고 마시며 소통하는 이 모습들은 나의 작품 속 사람들이기도 하고 우리가 늘 보는 거리 속 사람들이다. 캔버스 앞에서 나의 하루는 늘 조용하기만 하다.
그래서인지 작품 안에서는 시끌벅적한 세상 속 이야기를 따뜻하게 담고 싶다.
내가 느끼고 경험했던 장소지만, 나를 비롯해 많은 사람들이 스쳐 지나기도 하고, 기억하고 싶은 소중한 추억이 있는 의미 있는 장소이기도 할 것이다.
같은 장소에서 느낀 서로의 같은 감정일 수도 있고, 다른 감정일 수도 있으며, 회상할 수 있는 나만의 추억이 아닌 다른 이의 추억이 될 수 있는 장소를 그림에 옮기며, 나의 그림을 보는 이와 공감대가 생길 수 있는 소통하는 그림이길 바래본다.
The beginning of my art stems from memories and recollections of the past.
In a quiet room in a foreign land, the comfort of paper and pen has become my driving force to endure each day.
I draw inspiration from past travel photos, capturing the landscapes I see during my commutes and focusing on urban buildings and objects that hold memories of places I’ve visited.
In the past, my perspective was limited to locations filled with buildings and scenery, but now I want to expand that view to include the people coexisting within them, capturing the stories of urban life on my canvas.
Walking, talking, eating, drinking, and connecting—these moments reflect not only the people in my artwork but also the individuals we frequently encounter on the streets. My days in front of the canvas are often quiet, which is perhaps why I wish to warmly convey the lively stories of the world within my pieces.
These are places I have felt and experienced, but they are also meaningful locations where many people pass through, leaving behind precious memories they wish to cherish.
The feelings we share in the same space can be similar or different. By translating these places into my art, I hope to create a connection with viewers, fostering a dialogue through my work.
