Artist's Note.

‘꽃은 나와 우리에게 주는 선물이다.’

꽃은 ‘예쁘다’ 란 한마디로 대변되는 대표적인 생명체이다.

서양 미술에서 17C 이후 꽃은 더 이상 미술에서 악세서리가 아닌 주제로서 주인공이 되어왔다.

꽃은 너무도 많이들 그리는 그림의 소재이지만 나는 그 꽃의 주름과 잎맥까지 표현하고 본질을 탐구하고 시들지 않는 영원성을 표현하고자 한다.

#사실적 표현

식물의 줄기와 잎들까지 섬세하게 묘사해 크고 작은 꽃송이들과 함께 완성하기도 한다. 활짝 핀 꽃잎을 클로즈 업 시킨 밝은 화면으로 관객의 시선을 환상적인 환희의 공간으로 초대한다. 마치 17세기 네덜란드의 정물화처럼 아름답게 만개한 꽃을 중심에 배치하고 그 주위로 식물 줄기의 세세한 부분까지 상세하게 묘사하는데 잎맥에 맺힌 물방울까지 명료하게 나타내 사실감을 극대화한다. 이것은 시간과 노동의 산실이기도 하다.

#부감 구도

부감법 구도를 즐겨 채택하여 화면을 향한 관객의 시선 방향과 직면하도록 화면을 설정하고 집중력을 고조시킨다. 이것은 극사실주의의 회화적 효과로 단순히 욕망을 만족시킬 뿐만 아니라 인간 본연의 원초적인 감성을 자극하려는 장치들인 셈이다.

역설적으로 의미와 무관하게 가장 순수하게 직관적 감성에 다가서려는 의도라고 하겠다.

그리고 부감 구도에서 중요한 것은 빛을 끌어들인다는 것이다. 그림 안에서 빛은 눈이 부시거나 반짝이는 것이 아니라 그림자로 드러난다. 빛은 그림자를 드리우고 그림자는 우리를 더 깊은 곳으로 끌어들이는 역할을 한다.

#감정의 네트워크

꽃을 선물이라는 관점으로 보면 사람간의 감정을 이어주는 관계 형성으로 이해되어 진다.

누군가에는 사랑의 표현이고, 다른 이에겐 존경의 표현이 되고 또 어떤 때는 축하와 감사의 마음으로 다양하게 전달된다.

근래 작업하고 있는 Flower Box Series에서 보여주고 있는 꽃은 단순한 아름다움만이 아니라 주는 이와 받는 사람을 연결하여 주는 감정 네트워크의 모습이라 하겠다.

또한 나의 그림은 삶에 다양함에 대한 나 자신에게 주는 선물이자 감상자들에게 주는 선물이 되기 바란다. 또 이것은 화려함 속에 미를 추구하려는 작가적 욕망이라고 할 수 있겠다.

'Flowers are gifts to me and to us.'

Flowers are represented by the word "pretty."
After 17C in Western art, flowers have no longer been the main character in art as accessories, but as a subject.
Flowers are the subject of too many paintings, but I want to express the wrinkles and leaf veins of the flowers, explore the essence, and express an eternity that does not wither.

#a matter of factual expression
It delicately depicts the stems and leaves of plants, and sometimes completes them with large and small flowers. The bright screen with a close-up of the broad petals invites the audience's gaze to a space of fantastic joy. Like a Dutch still-life painting in the 17th century, a beautifully blooming flower is placed at the center and details of the plant stem are described in detail around it, maximizing realism by clearly showing even the water droplets on the leaf veins. This is also the birthplace of time and labor.

#a bird's eye composition
By enjoying adopting the negative factor composition, the screen is set to face the direction of the audience's gaze toward the screen, and the concentration is enhanced. These are devices that not only satisfy desires but also stimulate the original sensibility of humans with the painterly effect of hyperrealism.
Paradoxically, regardless of meaning, it is intended to approach the purest intuitive sensibility.
And the fact that it attracts light is crucial in the composition of the relief. The light in the painting is not blinding or glistening, but rather as a shadow. Shadows are cast by light, which draws us deeper.

#a network of emotions
From the perspective of flowers as a gift, it is understood as the formation of a relationship that connects emotions between people.
For some, it is an expression of love, for others, it is an expression of respect, and sometimes it is conveyed in various ways with celebration and gratitude.
The flower shown in the Flower Box Series, which is being worked on recently, is not just a beauty, but an emotional network that connects the giver and the receiver.
In addition, I hope that my paintings will be a gift to myself and to viewers about the diversity in life. In addition, it can be said that this is the artist's desire to pursue beauty in splendor.
