Artist's Note.
나는 안경이 단순한 시력 보정 도구를 넘어 개인의 정체성과 사회적 상호작용을 표현하는 매개체로 작용한다는 점이 흥미로웠다. 내 그림 속의 안경들은 대상의 이미지를 강조할 뿐만 아니라, 개인의 개성과 사회적 시선을 상징하는 도구로 사용되고 있다.
안경을 주제로 한 작업은 나에게 깊은 의미를 지니고 있다.
어릴 적 안경이 콤플렉스를 감추는 장치로 작용했던 경험과 그로 인해 형성된 심리는 나의 작품에 중요한 영향을 미쳤다. 내 그림에서 안경은 '잘 보이려고'와 '잘 보려고'의 이중적인 기능을 가지고 있으며, 이는 타인의 시선과 자기표현 사이의 복잡한 심리를 반영한다.
이러한 관점에서, 안경은 단순한 시각적 도구가 아니라, 자신과 타인을 어떻게 인식하고 표현하는지를 탐구하는 중요한 상징이 된다. 나의 작업은 과거와 현재, 그리고 자아에 대한 깊은 성찰을 통해 새로운 시각적 해석을 제시하며, 개인적이고 사회적인 맥락에서의 안경을 시선이라는 관점으로 탐구하고 있다. 안경을 단순한 시력 보정 도구가 아니라, 개인의 정체성과 감정을 표현하는 매개체로서 중의적 의미를 담고 있으며, 상징적 조형 언어로 안경을 활용해 작품에 독특한 시각적 요소를 추가하고 싶었다. 또한, 미술사적 인물과 반려견을 통해 인간의 심리와 감정을 담아내며, 현실과 초현실을 넘나드는 상상의 세계를 탐험하고자 한다.

각기 다른 시리즈로 개인적 경험과 감정을 공유하는 매개체로서 안경의 새로운 의미를 제시하고 있다.

I find it fascinating that glasses are not just a simple tool for vision correction, but also act as a medium for expressing one's identity and social interactions. In my paintings, the glasses not only emphasize the image of the subject, but also serve as a tool that symbolizes the individual's personality and social gaze.
The theme of glasses holds deep significance for me. My experience of glasses acting as a device to conceal my insecurities during childhood, and the psychology formed by that, have had a significant influence on my artwork. In my paintings, glasses have a dual function of "seeing well" and "being seen well," reflecting the complex psychology between others' gaze and self-expression.
From this perspective, glasses are not just a visual tool, but an important symbol that explores how we perceive and express both ourselves and others. My work offers a new visual interpretation through deep reflection on the past, present, and self, and investigates glasses in the context of perception, both personally and socially. Glasses carry a multi-layered meaning as a medium for expressing personal identity and emotions, and I wanted to incorporate them as a symbolic sculptural language to add unique visual elements to my work. Additionally, through art historical figures and my pet dog, I aim to capture human psychology and emotions, exploring a world that straddles the line between reality and surrealism.
Through different series such as Don’t Stop Along the Way (a parody of The Beatles’ Abbey Road), INNER GAZE (based on reference artists), and Good Job Today (inspired by my childhood pet), I present a new meaning of glasses as a medium to share personal experiences and emotions.
