Artist's Note.
숲과 집은 나에게 내면을 성찰하고 존재를 회복하는 두 개의 근원적 풍경이다. 숲은 흔히 길을 잃는 혼돈의 장소로 여겨지지만,
내 작업 속 숲은 오히려 자아가 가장 순수한 상태로 돌아가 위로를 받는 공간이다.
나무와 바람, 빛과 그림자가 서로를 감싸며 만들어내는 그 고요한 리듬 속에서 나는 숨을 고르고, 흩어진 감정은 다시 질서를 회복한다.
숲은 내면의 호흡이 맑아지는 자리이며, 존재가 자신과 화해하는 장소이다.
집은 그 숲을 이어받아 자아를 안정시키는 또 하나의 원형이다.
집은 단순히 머무는 물리적 장소가 아니라, 존재가 되돌아가 본질을 확인하는 심리적 구조이다.
벽과 지붕은 닫힌 경계가 아니라 나를 보호하는 울타리이며, 그 안에서 나는 가장 근원적인 고요와 평온을 경험한다.
집은 숲에서 얻은 위로를 온전히 품어내고, 그 기억을 오래도록 지탱하는 도구이다.
숲과 집은 서로 다른 풍경이지만, 결국 같은 방향을 가진다. 숲은 나를 열어 세계와 이어지게 하고, 집은 나를 모아 존재의 중심을 다시금 확인하게 한다.
그리고 이 두 장소를 이어주는 매개는 기억이다. 기억은 숲에서의 체험을 집으로 불러오고, 집에서의 고요를 숲으로 되돌려 보내며, 존재의 순환을 지속시킨다.
기억은 시간 속에서 사라지는 것이 아니라, 또 다른 방식으로 존재를 지탱하는 보이지 않는 구조물이다.
〈마음의 숲과 집〉은 이 세 가지 요소, 숲과 집 그리고 기억이 교차하며 만들어내는 내면의 풍경을 시각화한 것이다.
화면 위의 숲은 겹겹의 붓질과 색으로 시간과 감정을 축적하고, 집은 그 쌓여진 감정들을 수용하며 질서를 회복한다.
나의 작업은 자연이나 공간을 재현하는 것이 아니라, 인간이 자기 존재와 자아 회복을 위한 하나의 과정인 것이다.
나는 이 작품을 통해 관람자 또한 자기 안의 숲과 집, 그리고 그 속에 깃든 기억을 발견하기를 바란다.
작품은 단지 보는 대상이 아니라, 그 앞에 선 이가 자신의 내면과 마주하게 하는 통로이다.
숲과 집은 결국 우리 모두가 품고 있는 내면의 풍경이며, 그 풍경을 바라볼 때 존재는 비로소 자기 자신을 확인한다.
숲의 고요와 집의 안식, 그리고 기억의 여운이 서로를 비추며 이어질 때, 우리는 깨닫게 된다.
존재란 완결된 실체가 아니라, 쉼과 위로 속에서 끊임없이 다시 세워지는 과정이라는 것을. 그리고 그 과정 속에서 나는 작업을 이어가며 묻는다.
“나는 어디에서 나를 회복하고, 어디에서 나의 존재를 확인하는가?”
The forest and the home are, for me, two fundamental landscapes—spaces where I reflect inwardly and restore my sense of being.
While forests are often seen as chaotic places where one loses their way,
the forests in my work are spaces where the self returns to its purest state and finds comfort.
Within the quiet rhythm created by trees, wind, light, and shadow embracing one another, I catch my breath.
Scattered emotions begin to regain their order.
The forest becomes a place where my inner breath clears, and where my being reconciles with itself.
The home, in turn, inherits the forest’s calm—becoming another archetype that stabilizes the self.
It is not merely a physical space to reside in, but a psychological structure where the self returns to affirm its essence.
Walls and roofs are not closed boundaries, but protective enclosures. Within them, I experience the most fundamental tranquility and peace.
The home fully holds the comfort received from the forest, and becomes a vessel that sustains those memories over time.
Though forest and home are different in form, they ultimately move in the same direction.
The forest opens me up and connects me to the world; the home gathers me and reaffirms the center of my being.
And what links these two spaces is memory.
Memory calls forth the experiences of the forest into the home,
and returns the home’s stillness back into the forest—sustaining the cyclical rhythm of existence.
Memory does not vanish with time, but becomes an invisible structure that supports our being in another form.
Forest and Home of the Mind visualizes this internal landscape where these three elements—forest, home, and memory—intersect.
The forest on the canvas accumulates layers of time and emotion through brushstrokes and color.
The home receives these layered emotions, bringing them into harmony.
My work is not a representation of nature or physical space,
but a process—one that allows humans to recover the self and reaffirm their existence.
Through this work, I hope the viewer will also discover their own forest and home—and the memories that dwell within.
The artwork is not merely something to be looked at; it is a passage, inviting the viewer to confront their own inner world.
Forest and home are inner landscapes we all carry within us.
When we gaze into them, we begin to truly recognize ourselves.
When the quiet of the forest, the rest of the home, and the resonance of memory reflect and connect with one another, we come to understand:
Existence is not a completed entity, but a continuous process—one that is rebuilt through rest and comfort.
And in that process, I continue to create and quietly ask:
“Where do I restore myself? And where do I affirm that I exist?”
