Artist's Note.

- 나의 작업은 유희에서 시작된다. 인간의 본질이며, 그 본질이 예술로 발전한다고 믿는다. 특히 나의 라이브 드로잉은 의식과 무의식 사이에서 무념무상 유희가 되며, 완성으로 이어진다.

- 놀이 행위에서 나오는 에너지들이 정신적인 창조활동을 만들어낸다고 생각한다.

- 대표캐릭터 바라바빠(barabapa)는 바라보다, 바람이라는 중의적인 뜻이 있다. 그리고 내가 가지고 있는 밝고 긍정적인 에너지를 전달시키고자 표현하고자 한다.

- 바빠이즘(bapaism) : 삶을 유쾌하고 아름답게 바라보며, 더 나은 내일을 향한 바람(wish)을 품는 긍정의 철학

- 조금은 비합리적인 생각과 행동이 예술과 함께할 때 낭만이 꽃을 피운다. 예술은 어차피 비합리적인 행위이다.

- 낙서는 나에게 놀이터이며 창조, 치유, 에너지 발산의 세계이다.

- 작품에 등장하는 캐릭터들은 상상 속에서 탄생한 다양한 존재이다. 이들은 무의식 속에 잠재되어 있는 수많은 이야기를 담고 있다.

무중력처럼 보이는 표현 방식은 나와 너, 그리고 우리 모두 저마다의 개성을 가지고 주인공이 되고자 하는 갈망과 자유로움을 표현하고 있다.

- 그림을 그릴 때만큼은 나만의 세상이 열리고, 캐릭터들을 그릴 때 이 친구는 어떤 이야기를 하고 싶을까, 어떤 주인공이 될 수 있을까라는 생각들을 한다.

- 작품 속 등장하는 캐릭터들은 유쾌함과 행복을 전달하는 바라바빠의 유쾌하고 밝은 긍정의 에너지를 받은 유닛들이며,

유닛들 또한 자유분방한 모습으로 유쾌함, 즐거움, 행복, 긍정의 에너지를 전파시킨다.

- 이름 없이 탄생되는 수많은 캐릭터들 대부분은 존재감 없이 사라지는 것이 우리와도 비슷하다.

바라바빠가 이름 없는 캐릭터에서 생명력을 얻었듯이 다른 캐릭터들에게도 조금의 활력 혹은 생명력을 주는 것이 나의 임무라 생각한다. 그 생명력이 밝고 유쾌함으로 표현되고 전달되길 희망한다.

- 생명력이라는 단어를 좋아한다. 내가 할 수 있는 일 중 하나는 캐릭터에게 조그마한 생명력을 주는 것이다.

수많은 드로잉에서 탄생한 이름 없는 친구들을 세상에 공개해 줌으로서 작은 생명력이 생기는 시작점이라 생각한다.

- 나도 누군가에게는 이름 없는 작가이지만, 또 누군가에게는 이름 있는 작가가 되기도 한다. 이렇듯 가치를 부여하게 되면 생명력이 생겨난다고 생각한다.

- 드로잉은 본능적인 배출과도 같다. 내 머릿속에 들어온 무언가가 그림으로 배출되어 표현되는 것. 본능적인 배출을 막을 방도는 없다.

- 나에게 예술의 형식과 재료는 전혀 중요치 않다. 그저 그림을 그리고 싶을 뿐.

- My work begins with play. I believe it is the essence of humanity, and that essence develops into art. In particular, my live drawings become a state of “no-mind play” between consciousness and the unconscious, leading to completion.

- I think the energies that emerge from acts of play create mental and creative activity.

- My signature character, Barabapa, carries a double meaning: “to look” and “wind.” I aim to convey and express the bright and positive energy that I carry.

- Bapaism: A philosophy of positivity that embraces life joyfully and beautifully, holding a wish for a better tomorrow.

- A little irrational thought and behavior bloom into romance when paired with art. After all, art is inherently an irrational act.

- Graffiti is my playground, a world of creation, healing, and energy release.

- The characters in my works are diverse beings born from imagination. They hold countless stories that reside in the unconscious.

The weightless way I express my work represents the desire for each of us—me, you, and all of us—to become protagonists in our own lives, embracing individuality and freedom.

- When I draw, my own world opens. While creating characters, I wonder: What story does this friend want to tell? What kind of protagonist could they become?

- The characters in my works are units that receive Barabapa’s cheerful and bright energy of positivity, spreading joy, fun, happiness, and positive energy themselves in a free-spirited manner.

- Most of the countless characters born without names disappear without presence, much like ourselves.

Just as Barabapa gained life from being a nameless character, I believe it is my mission to give even a little vitality or life to other characters. I hope this life is expressed and conveyed as brightness and cheerfulness.

- I love the word “vitality.” One of the things I can do is give a little vitality to a character.

By revealing nameless friends born from countless drawings to the world, I see it as the starting point of giving them a small life.

- I may be a nameless artist to someone, yet a named artist to someone else. When value is given, life emerges.

- Drawing is also an instinctive release. Something that enters my mind is expressed through drawing. There is no way to stop this instinctive outpouring.

- For me, the form or medium of art is completely unimportant. I simply want to draw.
