Artist's Note.

오래전, 처음으로 사막의 베드윈 캠프에 갔던 날.. 한낮의 뜨거운 태양의 열기가 잦아들고 사막에 밤이 내리면, 

하늘엔 눈으로 다 담을 수 없을 만큼 별빛이 쏟아지고 있었다. 

땅의 빛이 꺼지니 하늘의 빛이 살아나 만물의 생명이 이어지는 경이로움을 느꼈으며, 별빛이 내 가슴 깊숙이 자리한 순간이었다. 

그 후 오랜 시간이 흐른 뒤, 화가의 길을 걷게 되었을 때, 오랫동안 마음 속에 자리하고 있던 그 ‘별빛’을 꺼내어 화판위에 펼치기 시작했다. 

그 옛날, 아랍의 예술가들이 창조해 낸 기하학적 별패턴 위에 내 마음의 빛을 입히기 시작했고, 

어둠의 끝자락에 피어오르는 여린 별빛 하나와 그 빛을 타고 떠오르는 수많은 별들의 이야기를 화폭에 담고 있다. 

길이 없는 사막에서 하늘의 ‘별빛’은 베드윈들에게 가야할 방향을 가르쳐주는 삶의 이정표였다. 

베드윈들은 별빛을 찾아 그들의 길을 찾고 삶을 이어왔다. 또한 고대 아랍의 예술가들은 이 별빛을 기하학적 문양으로 창조해 많은 건축물들을 장식하여 왔다. 

이는 하늘의 별을 땅으로 내려 공존하고자 하는 마음이었을 것이다. 

아름다운 아랍의 기하학적 별패턴은 수많은 반복적인 선들로 이루어져 있다. 

나는 이 선들에 동양화적 선의 기법을 적용, 선의 굵기를 변화시키고, 채색을 통해 빛과 어둠을 표현하며, 화판을 하늘로 삼아 별빛을 표현해 내고 있다. 

한국의 예술과 아랍의 예술을 융합한 새로운 장르를 여는 마음으로, 소재는 한국의 전통 한지와 한국화 물감, 분채, 먹등을 사용, 

아랍의 전통 예술인 기하학적 별패턴 위에 별빛을 그린다.

 그 빛이 많은 이들에게 희망과 위안의 빛으로 공감되길 바라며…

A long time ago, when I went to Bedwin camp in the desert for the first time, the heat of the midday sun died down and the night fell in the desert, 

Starlight was pouring into the sky beyond what the eyes could contain. 

As the light of the earth went out, I felt the wonder that the light of the sky came to life and the life of all things continued, and it was the moment when the starlight was deeply located in my heart. 

After a long time, when I walked the artist's path, I took out the 'starlight' that had been in my mind for a long time and began to spread it on the Canvas. 

Once upon a time, I began to shine my mind on the geometric patterns of stars that Arab artists had created, 

The canvas contains the story of a soft starlight rising at the end of the darkness and the numerous stars that rise through the light. 

In a desert without roads, the 'starlight' of the sky was a milestone in life that taught bedwins the direction to go. 

Bedwins have continued their lives searching for the stars. Ancient Arab artists have also created these starlights with geometric patterns, decorating many structures. 

This would have been the desire to bring down the stars in the sky to the ground and coexist. 

The beautiful Arab geometric star pattern consists of numerous repetitive lines. 

I am applying the oriental painting technique to these lines to change the thickness of the line, express light and darkness through coloring, 

and express starlight by using the painting board as the sky. 

With the intention of opening a new genre that combines Korean and Arab art, the material is Korean traditional Korean paper, Korean paint, Bunchae, ink, etc, 

Starlight is drawn on the geometric star pattern, a traditional Arab art.

 I hope that the light will be sympathized with many as a light of hope and comfort...
